Carmen Brown is born in a suburb of Lisbon as an child of an mozambique immigrant family. Raised up between Germany and Portugal, now she lives in Düsseldorf working with her Band – The Elements. In June of 2011, the first releases will appear on o-tone/BHM followed by a support tour with Marla Glen, in the summer shes is playing at several festivals. Carmen Brown and her band were chosen Best in the Funk & Soul at the German Rock & Pop Prize in Wiesbaden in the year 2009. With her strong soul voice, Carmen Brown manages to spread a hefty portion of Afro-Flair, her songs blending Gospel, Motown and Stax. After recording songs for the album in 2009, she took the road along with her 9 band mates – brass players, percussion and backing band. Carmen Brown became well known after singing together in various bands like Don Cabron, Pandillas Sonora, Soul Soda and was featured by Ischen Impossible. Making a huge impact, she won the band competion “Restorm on Stage” and is now present on Soulsender.de and Jazzthing. Her latest prize for Best Funk & Soul at the German Rock & Pop Prize in Wiesbaden only helps to solidify her career. Those who like to categorize would struggle to pin Carmen Brown down to one genre. Her fresh mix really sets her apart, going from soul and jazz to minimalistic experimental sounds, from the dirty 60s to classic pop elements. This fascinating patchwork is kept well together by her charismatic voice that just makes you want to hear more. Carmen Brown for Dove, one of her first songs, can already be heard throughout Europe in the TV commercial for Doves campaign “Perfect Curves”. The first release by the label BHM Records will appear in June 2011.
